Amman, November 2 (Petra) – Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya on Sunday inaugurated the Integrated Border Operations Management Room at the Wadi Araba Crossing in Aqaba Governorate.

Established in cooperation with the European Union (EU) and implemented with support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the facility aims to enhance integrated border management, improve services, facilitate traveler movement, strengthen efforts to combat cross-border crime and boost trade across Jordan's land, sea and air crossings.

Faraya praised the EU for its support of development and security efforts in the region and to UNODC for its partnership in implementing border security initiatives.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernising border infrastructure, expediting the movement of people and goods and improving the working environment at crossing points.

EU Ambassador to Jordan, in turn, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas reaffirmed the Union's support for Jordan's border modernisation efforts, announcing €15 million in additional funding for border development projects in 2026.

Cristina Albertin, UNODC Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa, said the initiative part of the "Strengthening Capacities to Combat Transnational Crime in Jordan" project reflects years of cooperation aimed at building safer and more efficient borders.

She added that the project not only enhances border management but also promotes regional stability, economic growth and coordination among national authorities through improved technology and information sharing.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Governor of Aqaba, Ayman Awaisha, along with senior officials from border agencies and international partners.
